FISH THE GREAT SALMON RIVER!

During the first weekend of June Malone, New York will host the 9th Annual Hendrickson Hatch Fly Fishing Tournament. Anglers are invited to come to town June 1&2, 2013 to fish one of the North Country's most productive streams, the Great Salmon River. We have a special offer for participants that preregister for this year's tournament: any pre-registered participant will get a 10% discount on purchases at The Hungry Trout Fly Shop in Wilmington through May 31, 2013. Upon arrival of your registration I will notify Evan at the fly shop and when you show up at the shop mention your registration in this tournament and you will receive your discount.

Flowing north through Franklin County, the Salmon River drains the foothills of the Adirondacks and winds its way through the town and village of Malone before dumping into the St. Lawrence River. Fishing Report - May 5, 2013 - Spent a little while on the river this evening and observed one the most impressive caddis hatches I have ever seen. My kids were scooping them off rocks by the handfull. They were a dark grey about size 12. I had a pretty close match in my box, but there were so many bugs in the water it was only luck to get a hit. We changed to an elkhair caddis and did pretty well. The change in color did not match-the-hatch, but it produced more strikes. We caught nothing larger than about 10 inches, but had a great time. Water levels are very favorable for fishing and water temperatures are very warm for early May. I measured 65 degrees at 7:00 pm. A week of full sun and warm temperatures has caused a very rapid increase in water temperature (hope for some rain soon). Hendrickson mayflies should be hatching within a few days. Please remember to practice Catch and Release fishing.

A CATCH AND RELEASE BUDDY TOURNAMENT

RULES:

Fishing will take place on the Salmon River between the Chasm Falls dam and State Route 37 in Westville, NY. A map of the Salmon River will be given to each participant for a reference. Access to the river must be public and legal. Please respect all posted and private property. Fishing licenses are required for ages 16 and up.

REGISTRATION:

Registration will take place at North Country Community College between 8:00 and 9:45 am on Saturday morning. Registration fee is $40. (Kids 12 & under, $15) Registation fee includes miscellaneous gifts at registration, an invitation to Saturday evening's reception at Donovan's restaurant, and a ribs and chicken BBQ on Sunday afternoon. Registered anglers will also be entered into a drawing for miscellaneous door prizes on Sunday afternoon. Family members are invited to the BBQ for $10. Kids eat free!

All tournament proceeds go to the Malone Revitalization Foundation for continued enhancement of the Salmon River.

AWARDS / PRIZES:

Plaques will be awarded to the top 3 winning anglers based on the total number of inches accumulated. A plaque will also be awarded to the angler with the largest trout landed and released. All registered anglers will be entered in a drawing for the chance to win miscellaneous door prizes.
